Many Presidents have had brothers who were also in the limelight. Most notably, JFK had two famous siblings who also chose political careers.
But arguably, boomers remember the most entertaining presidential brother as one William Alton Carter III, otherwise known as Billy. Jimmy Carter came from nowhere to become the Democratic presidential frontrunner in 1976. The press were intrigued by this Georgia peanut farmer who had captivated the public's interest so quickly and so thoroughly.
Here in the U.S. today, the major political parties have completed their conventions to nominate candidates for the offices of president and vice president. Yet, millions of voters have moved out of the political party system.
The decline of loyalty has made politics less stable and predictable resulting in close elections. As Baby Boomers have aged over the past 40 years, close and unpredictable elections have increasingly become the norm.
