Women leaders in business can be compassionate yet still successful and respected according to Patricia Forrester’s expert book on women in leadership, Nice Girls on Top: Compassionate and Highly Effective Leadership for Women.
Women’s influence in business is growing exponentially, according to Newsweek, two-thirds of American households currently boast women as co-breadwinners, women are expected, on average, to outpace the earnings of men by the year 2024, and female-led firms grew at three times the rate of numbers for firm growth overall.
Forrester, 51, a resident of Los Angeles and a former writer for the ABC series Boy Meets World, offers five case studies as an illustration of how businesswomen are even more successful when they lead with compassion.
Says Forrester, “In the information age we live in now, it is people’s innovative ideas that drive our economy. Compassionate leadership is the key to inspire employees to such heights of creativity. Women leaders will do best when using their own innate nurturing skills and should no longer feel the need to behave in a brutish manner to get ahead.”
