"Networking is very important, whether you're a CEO or an entrepreneur," Mindy Grossman, the CEO of the Home Shopping Network, said the other night, in an event hall at the Fashion Institute of Technology. "Nothing is linear anymore, ant the connections you make--you never know what is going to come of them."
Grossman is a co-chair of a group called F.I.T. Executive Women in Fashion. The evening's speaker was Martha Stewart. Grossman said, during the cocktail hour, "If you can walk out having made one or more great relationships, it's a success. It becomes a widening circle."
Grossman hugged Debra Malbin, an executive recruiter. "I have a president position I would love to find somebody for," Malbin said, scanning the room. "I start with people who I know and ask them who they know. Every lead leads to another lead. I go to all these things. Networking is my marketing."
